The Camino is Calling
“I reckon I got to light out for the Territory ahead of the rest, because Aunt Sally she’s going to adopt me and sivilize me, and I can’t stand it.”
–Huckleberry Finn
A journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step. Right now we are in the planning stages of a great adventure: the Camino de Santiago de Compostela. A nearly 500 mile spiritual pilgrimage from southern France to the west edge of Spain. A pilgrimage that goes back to medieval times.
I recently retired after 33 years of working at UCLA Events & Transportation; a fantastic journey in itself. Using Huckleberry Finn as a role model, I ended one adventure and wanted to start a new one immediately. I had heard about the Camino from our friend Deb JR who has completed the Camino twice utilizing two different routes. I conducted research on the walk and since I have the time and energy, now seemed like a good time to undertake this epic journey.
After watching the movie The Way starring Martin Sheen (available on Netflix) our good friends Sharon and Scott agreed to join me for the full route and my lovely wife Veronica will join us about 2/3rds into the journey. So our flights and lodging are booked and we’ll be off in Spring 2020. I will be detailing the journey here on the blog about once per week. Check back for more details in Spring 2020.
